Words can move you

This week it was my turn to express myself in the Humap-blog. For the past couple of years I have been quite passionate about something that could be called responsible or mindful communication. We create our experiences and social lives in communication with other people and it has a tremendous effect on how we can flourish and unlock our potential. Whenever we tell stories about our colleagues or friends we create possibilities or barriers for their behaviour.

In the blog post I quoted Jeane Kirkpatrick:
"Words can destroy. What we call each other ultimately becomes what we think of each other, and it matters."
In contrast, words can also lift you up. Last week two of my colleagues in Humap launched a praising week (it became so popular it was extended to the end of the month), which means that everyone has the possibility to praise their colleagues. Every person has their own page in the intranet and you can go and write down what you appreciate about the other, what kind of strenghts you see and so on. The nice thing is that everyone can see what your colleagues are writing to each other's pages. Personally it has been a wonderful exercise. To say those meaningful words to your colleagues and receive all those beautiful words, and make it transparent. Uplifting.

Words can really move you when they come from heart.
