The New Year 2015

Happy New Year 2015!

I rarely make any new year's resolutions but I do like to think about a theme or a couple of words I could keep in mind during the new year.

Previous year 2014 was a special one. I named it to be the year of flourishing. I re-visited the idea many times during the past year; what it means to me and if I am doing the things that enable me to flourish. I think I did quite well in the end. One of the absolute highlights professionally was my two-month-stay in Texas A&M University as a visiting scholar. During that time my PhD research really took a giant leap forward and now I am happy to say that I am close to the finishing line. Next to that, I started a nine-month consulting/research project with one senior management team in Finland, during which I was able to grow and learn as a practitioner. I was taken by the way the CEO and the rest of the team invited and trusted me, which enabled me to do my work carefully and mindfully leading to some quite fantastic outcomes.

And what for year 2015?

I would like to keep two words in my mind. I wrote them down last October when I attended the CMM Learning Exchange in Arizona. The first thing I took from that gathering was the generosity of people. I was humbled by the way the"older gurus" in the field encountered with others and offered their support, how mindful everyone was of what we are making together in communication, and how people embraced and appreciated the work everyone of us is doing.

I also experienced a huge gratitude. I was very touched by how grateful people were towards one another and the stories everyone shared. The gratitude towards the ideas of CMM and life in general was so genuine it is hard to capture in any words.

So I take generosity and gratitude as the foregrounding themes for the year 2015. I hope to practice more generosity in my life and show more gratitude towards others.

What are your guiding themes for this year?
